"One of Us" - a national certified and recognized
non-profit organization, was established in 2002 in order
to provide effective psychological treatment and emotional
support for victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence
who are unable to receive treatment elsewhere. Our centers
treat children, adolescent and adult, victims of sexual abuse
for a symbolic fee.
Unfortunately, incidents of sexual abuse occur at a much
higher rate than most of us would like to believe. National
statistics report thousands of new incidents each year, involving
children, teenagers, and adults from all ethnic and religious
groups alike. Unfortunately, there is no single family profile
or indicators for the abusers. The abuser can be well educated,
financially stable, and claim to hold religious and ethical
practices.
There are several programs that provide assistance to survivors
of sexual abuse and domestic violence in Israel. The vast
majority provide crisis help consisting of phone and limited
in-person contacts.
The majority of victims of sexual abuse suffer from post
traumatic stress disorder or chronic trauma that hinders their
daily functioning in all aspects of life. Such impairment
requires psychological treatment in order to rehabilitate
and enable the victims to function at a normal level, by reducing
the unwanted symptoms, and allowing the victims to re-establish
a sense of trust in their home and community. Due to limited
resources, most community based public mental health clinics
are unable to provide specialized treatments. The cost of
private mental health is unfortunately too costly for most
survivors to afford, leaving them struggling and falling behind.
 This
non profit organization, "One Of Us" was founded
by Dr. Talma Cohen a trained child psychologist and a clinical
social worker who specializes in treating victims of sexual
abuse. Treatment at the center is provided by senior professionals
trained in the field of mental health. Clinical treatment
is provided with adherence to the privacy and confidentiality
of our clients and maintaining the highest degree of ethical
conduct.
